Full Name: Theo Amat Tazian

Meaning of Name:

‘Theo’ is the Greek word for god. It’s purposefully shortened from her previous name, which meant ‘a gift from god,’ as she didn’t identify with the gift part.
‘Amat’ is a matronymic and short for Tiamat, the Babylonian goddess of the sea.
‘Tazian’ is an Armenian name meaning ‘greyhound,’ referring to her family’s history as game wardens for various Obalar ruling families.

Family: Her immediate family includes her mother Amat, father Vahe, and aunt Dzovig. Less immediate are her paternal grandmother Raqel and grandfather Melik, as well as her maternal aunts and auncles Zerya, Kanî, and Derav.

Nicknames: She wanted a nickname deeply, but never got one. When she needs an alias, she uses the name Nara.

Appearance:

She can’t sit still, ever. She talks loudly and with her hands, usually close to the listener. This can come off as intense and theatrical.
Her skin is pinkish-brown and prone to blushing. She takes excellent care of it, applying sunscreen, creams, and oils every day. Orchid-brown hyperpigmentation decorates her short neck, armpits, eyelids, upper lip and stomach.
Her eyes are slim, clear, and expressive. Their black color and long lashes make her look quite doe-like. She avoids eye contact.

Hobbies:

Dancing, both choreographed and spontaneous, for war and games and weddings. She took lessons for years in individual, partnered and collective dance, and carries it with her even now as a source of endless joy.
Animal husbandry. Dzoram, in particular, is home to many sheep and goat herders whom Theo learned from. Specific tasks include milking, shearing, hoof trimming, and treating maladies like ringworm. When she was little, she often hid among the sheep when they piled in their shed and fell asleep, sparking many a panicked search when night fell.
Sculpture and pottery. The former is restricted to mostly small figurines. The latter often includes painting in small, repeating floral and geometric patterns that Theo finds awfully tedious compared to the actual shaping of the clay.
Gardening. Another name for her home province is the Valley of Flowers. Arrowheads, irises, poppies, roses, and lavender grew in abundance there. Lavender fields surround the abbey in Taramis, much to her delight.
Rock collecting. Her love for jewelry cannot be overstated, but it’s not always practical to wear while working. She gets the same bliss from collecting, categorizing, cleaning and displaying any rocks and crystals she finds. Her favorite are rose quartz and aragonite.

Perfume Headcanons

Perfume headcanons for her: Skin musk, calla lily, white ginger, muguet & narcissus

Skin musk: "repulsive-attractive, chemical-warm, sweaty-balmy, acrid-waxy, earthy-powdery, fatty-chocolate-like, pungent-leathery, fig-like, dry, nutty and woody..."
Calla lily: As far as I know doesn't have a scent.
White ginger: "Bracing, uplifting and almost nose-tinglingly spicy..."
Muguet, aka Lily of the Valley: Almost spicy, so green and sweet, with hints of lemon...
Narcissus: "Rich, floral, green, heady: like burying your nose in springtime itself. Or as perfumer Julie Massé explains to The Perfume Society: ‘An opulent sensation of green-leaf, or the hissing of hot, wet summer lawns – a strangely intense and yet cool floral.’"

These all work very well! These scents trend warm, green, spicy, acidic, overall intense, just like her. The only exception is the coolness of narcissus. Musk is associated with animals, particularly musk deer, and Theo's fursona/favorite animal is a deer. Calla lily is her favorite flower, but as far as I know doesn't have a scent. Narcissus, although cool, works for her self-interested streak.

I personally associate her with the cistaceae family of flowers, also called rockroses. Labdanum is the resin derived from these flowers, and is used as 1/3 of the amber accord in perfume. "Labdanum, like oud, does not come from an animal but still smells animalic. It smells a little like birch tar, the ingredient most used to evoke leather in perfume, and it smells smoky, like the thickness of the air around a bonfire."

Theo is associated with rocks and roses, animals and smoke. Cistus creticus grows in the eastern Mediterranean, where parts of my world are based off of. It's a natural fit.

More than that, the flower itself is associated with both imminent death, mushrooms and wildfires.

Theo is associated with all three of those things. She's death-and-life together, the most fascinated by death of all my characters, Weird Girl Supreme. She's afraid to die. She has died, both in the modern world and the world I made. She's afraid to die because she has died, because she understands death as the ceasing of possibility and ceasing of change, but is attracted to death as a form of change. Lot going on! Mushrooms are interesting to her because they're Weird Girl canon, and she likes how they defy category. They're not quite plants, but not animals either, and you don't cook them like meat or vegetables. They grow on dead things. Some of them are delicious, some of them are nothing, some of them make you see things, some of them kill you outright. They're chameleons. Last, wildfires are obvious. She's a natural pyromancer, from a forested area. Wildfires also straddle the death-life border, and in fact clear out dead organic material and release nutrients into the soil.

An Intro to Theo’s Magic

Magical Abilities: Her aura is cloud-like, billowing, and impossible to miss to the magically inclined. Her natural magical abilities are suited to pyromancy, light magic, plant magic, and other magics that accelerate natural processes like rusting metal or healing and scarring over wounds. Her magic has the potential to misfire disastrously, however. Her control over it is tentative. She has suppressed it. Throughout her story, she learns to accommodate, trust, and ultimately embrace her own magic.

Though Theo has greater control over their magic now, suppressing it for the first sixteen years of their life made their aura chaotic and dependent on their emotional state.
Their aura is opaque pale pink, peach and yellow. It takes on a cloud-like shape, and feels like foam on a sunlit sea.
If they aren't paying attention, their aura will leak and cause pots to boil over among other things.
Theo didn't pay attention in school, so their alchemy lessons were often interrupted by magical chain reactions they set off, much to their embarrassment!

Queer Headcanons

Theo instinctively resists the idea of categorizing herself or being in any kind of permanent state, because she’s here to be confusing, contradictory, and other c-words :3 She’s nonbinary transfemme, a trans woman, a fae princess, demigirl, cloudgender, and many other microlabels, though she’s always a femme in addition to those things. It took a similar journey to arrive at bi, as she spent most of her life looking for and dating men and identifying as gay, then transhet. Her first lesbian relationship was with her best friend Petra (both identified as male at the time), and her second was with Bakri. The idea of lesbian romance intimidated her so much that she waited years to make her crush on Bakri known. Now she’s happily bi/pan/queer/into everything that moves, though her soft spot for masculine gender presentation in her partner remains. A- Aftercare Theo usually just wants to eat/sleep after subbing, especially because their brain is scrambled and their words are likely stilted if not gone.
